Club Med Hosts Used Book Sale/Bake Sale!
On October 11 and 12, Club Med hosted the its Used Book Sale/Bake Sale at the Acme on Paoli Pike! Over the course of several weeks, we received and collected hundreds of thousands of books, CDs, and DVDs from local neighborhoods and schools, including our very own Henderson High School. We also posted for donations on websites like Facebook and Craig's list, and the turnout was incredible. Through the sale, Club Med raised over $1,000 for CVIM! Thanks again to everyone who could help out and our donors!
Current Agenda - 9/16/08
Raise money for medical causes
Right now, we are looking at CVIM (Community Volunteerh s in Medicine), a local nonprofit which provides health care for the uninsured. (Visit www.cvim.org for more info.) However, we are open to other medical causes as well. At future meetings we will discuss causes and fundraising options. There are a few ideas on the table right now, including:
-Pajama Day ? (Will need permission)
-Sponsorship for community service hours
We hope to prepare and participate for the USABO (U.S. Biology Olympiad). The USABO exam is a great way to prepare for the AP Bio test, plus students can win awards, scholarships, bragging rights, etc. We also hope to participate in the Society for Neuroscience Brain Bee, which is a jeopardy-like contest on the brain and nervous system.
Talk to local medical professionals
There will be designated days after school when local medical professionals and professionals in biology-related industries will visit and talk to us about their careers. Hopefully, we will also be able to take field trips to visit some of these professionals in the workplace.
Raise community awareness on important health issues
For example, creating broshures on Cord Blood donations.
Discuss and debate biology related news/research
Because discussions and debates about medicine and ethics can be really awesome.
Pool information on internships, shadowings, research, summer programs, etc. We will create a portfolio of websites and information so that students interested in medicine have access to many resources which will help promote and demonstrate interest.
Chill, watch House, Scrubs, Mystery Diagnosis, Discovery Health...
Whenever we need some down time |
